Abstract

This study was designed to survey the state of hygienic condition in the beauty salons.
Questionnaires were collected from 187 beauty salons from Nov-.4 1999 to Nov.10 1999.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) 80% of the beauty salons served single items and 20% of them served more than two items. 69.7% of the subjects had graduated junior high school, 5.9% of the subjects had graduated high school, 20.2% of the subjects had graduated to more than college and the rest of the subjects education background was under junior high school
2) 63.1% of the beauty salons had the space of more than 20 pyung, 36.9% of them had the space of less than 20 pyung. 43.5% of the salongs hired more than 5 employees
3) 37.4% of hairdressers used disposable gloves during permanent wave, 21.6% of aestheticians used the disinfected sponges, and 20.7% of the asthetitions used sterilized needle and lancet.
4) Duncan test revealed that the salons had more space and employees had higher hygienic condition and this study also revealed same result.
In conclusion, the basis of results in this study revealed importance of hygienic education for the cosmetologists, the necessity of health promotion and conducting the regular health examination. More of proper health educational programs for cosmetologists are required to be developed.
